Art is my passion and my life.
I am an artist with a vision of creating a kinder, more sustainable world where there is respect for life and the world's resources. I am dedicated to saving resources, living modestly, conserving energy, regenerating household waste.
In my art I use a lot of so-called waste in a creative way to regenerate images. Newspapers, old nylon orange sacks, leaves, natural objects are all incorporated into my work and are recreated and transformed into works of art.
I also use oil paint on canvas but am thinking of changing to acrylic which is perhaps more environmentally friendly.
I am interested in helping other artists who do not have blogs or websites, particularly artists in Cape Town, South Africa or those in the Western Cape area.
If you are an artist specialising in Cape landscapes I would be interested in featuring your work on my website and/or blog.
I live, breathe, think and dream about Art and art-making all day, every day and even sometimes at night. Living in Cape Town I am inspired by the beauty of the
natural environment in which I live. Living under the shadow of a world famous landmark such as Table Mountain can be
intimidating in many ways. Wherever you go in Cape Town you are aware
of it. It's many moods inform and dictate the lifestyle of the people living here, even though it is often taken for granted.
It is at times inspiring, irritating, always immense, overwhelming and seems almost to vibrate with an energy that is palpable.
I paint the landscape, people and things around me and issues and ideas that are important to me.
I aspire toward creating an authentic body of work that is coherent and am constantly searching for meaning .
I am always amazed, amused and bemused by the process of painting or creating a work of art. For me the process is more important
than the final result, even though that is what is ultimately judged by the viewer.
For me looking at paintings is an interactive thing, a conversation between the viewer and the creator, a give-and-take relationship.
Living with a painting should bring fresh insights into one's life, new perspectives, new ideas, new beginnings.
I have a blog which I use to discuss art matters or just generally rant about what I consider unfair practises or just generally issues which concern me.
